Today’s DC Talk Month Songs of the Day are “I Don’t Want” + “That Kinda Girl”, both of which hail from their 1992 album Free At Last. These songs are tracks #14 and #2 (respectively) of 17.
I Don’t Want It is an absolutely awesome song. An “anti-sex” song during a sexual age, a very, very rare thing. This song has a cool R&B vibe to it. I remember the chorus being a lot stronger from when I was a kid, but instead it’s soft. This song is about abstinence and about waiting for the one God has for you… Instead of accepting sex from just any girl. A rare subject for a song, which makes this tune a great one. I always laugh at the end part, “even if they taught me how, I don’t want your sex.” :D
I Don’t Want It DC Talk Song Lyrics
S-E-X is test when I’m pressed,
so back up off with less of that zest,
impress this brother with a life of virtue,
the innocence that’s spent is gonna hurt you.
Safe is the way they say to play,
then again safe ain’t safe at all today,
so just wait for the mate that’s straight from God,
don’t have sex till you tie the knot.
REFRAIN:
I don’t want it, I don’t want it, want it,
I don’t want it, your sex for now.
I don’t want it, I don’t want it, want it,
I don’t want it, till we take the vows.
Girl, it’s gonna take a little time for us to see (the truth),
that love is simply more than fulfilling the need (for S – E – X).
Respect is what we need to find the cure for this disease (of lust),
and trust in God above to shape our lives in harmony,
that’s why I’m saying…
(Refrain)
Girl, they say that it takes two to make a thing go right (for love).
But girl, we gotta remember there’s another in our lives (in God we
trust).
We must add up the cost before indulging in the heat (for now),
and trust that God will give us something better if we wait,
that’s why we got to say…
(Refrain)
1-900-LOVE S-E-X is on the TV,
too much skin is in your vision,
you gotta make the right decision.
God has set His standard higher,
purity is His desire, I’m gonna choose to wait.
I don’t want it, I don’t want it, want it,
I don’t want your sex for now
S-E-X is a test when I’m pressed,
so back off with less of that zest.
Impress this brother with a life of virtue,
the innocence that’s spent is gonna hurt you.
Safe is the way they say to play,
but then again safe ain’t safe at all today.
So just wait for the mate that’s straight from God,
don’t give it up until you tie the knot.
I don’t want your sex for now,
wait until we take the vows,
even if they dog me out,
I don’t want your sex.

“That Kinda Girl” deals with a similar subject in relationships, but with a rapping hip-hop style instead of the slow tuneage that I Don’t Want It brings. Both songs are great!
Man this song takes me back! This album, in all it’s tape-deck glory, was the soundtrack to my childhood! Even today, this song is funky, catchy and awesome. I love the combination of rapped vocals but also smooth singing. It’s got a cool vibe to it. :) The subject matter is also interesting, and the lyrics are fun. You also gotta love the “Ahhhhh” part at the end, they always did super funky and unique sounds in DC Talk songs.
This song deals with the subject of relationships from a Biblical perspective, from a guy who doesn’t want to just shack up with any chick, but is waiting for a Godly woman cause that’s what he finds attractive and prays for. I love the chorus. Enjoy!
That Kinda Girl DC Talk Song Lyrics
The other night I met a girl
And she looked to be so nice
I asked her for the digits
And she didn’t think twice
A couple of days later called her up and asked her out
She said,”with you?” I said, “with me,”
And then she said, “without a doubt”
I took her to the Garden where
I guess they grow the Olives
She wore a tighter skirt
Than any I had seen in college
She said, “I love to smoke and drink
While cursing like a sailor”
I asked her where she got her mouth
And if she had a tailor
Finally I walked her to the door to say goodnight
She said, “I am an apple,
Would you care to take a bite?”
Politely I refused and said, “I’m looking for a lady”
So she slapped me in my face and said,
“Boy, you must be crazy”
Different from the ones before
Different from the ones before, she’s that kinda girl
Different from the ones before,
Cause I know she loves the Lord
She’s that kinda girl, virtuous in every way
The kinda girl that makes you say,
“I hope she comes my way”
Well I’m lookin’ for a girl who virtuous
Cause God laid it on my heart to search for this
So I open up the Word to the book of Proverbs
The 31st chapter tells me all about her
Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain
A woman who fears the Lord, she ain’t playin’
Hear what I’m sayin’, cause I’m sayin’ it clearly
She’s the kinda girl I gots to have near me
She’s that kinda girl. Different from the ones before
Cause I know she loves the Lord
She’s that kinda girl, virtuous in every way,
The kinda girl that makes you say…
Well I’m lookin’ into hookin’ with a lady
And not a girly of the worl’y that’s shady
But the kinda girl you meet
Behind the doors of a church
Ya see, God will bring her to me
So I don’t have to search
Too hard I’ve been scarred by the ones of the past
So put an APB out on the one that will last
A little longer than a roll in the hay for sure
But a bona fide lady’s what I’m prayin’ for
When I finally meet her, I’ll know how to treat her
By fulfilling all her needs
Love her and respect her, cherish her forever
She’s the kinda girl for me
She’s that kinda girl
Different from the ones before,
Cause I know she loves the Lord
She’s that kinda girl, perfect for each other
There’ll never be another for me
She’s that kinda girl, virtuous in every way
The kinda girl that makes you say
“I hope she comes my way”
Heaven help me, hear my plea
I know there’s one who’s perfect for me
When I finally meet her, I’ll know how to treat her,
By fulfilling all her needs
Love her and respect her, cherish her forever
She’s the kinda girl for me
She’ the kinda girl for me, the kinda girl for me
She’ the kinda girl for me
She’ the kinda girl for me, the kinda girl for me
She’ the kinda girl for me, I pray she come’s my way
She’s that kinda girl
Different from the ones before
Cause I know she loves the Lord
She’s that kinda girl, virtuous in every way
The kinda girl that makes you say…
She’s that kinda girl
[ya know what I'm saying]
Different from the ones before
She’s the one that I adore
She’s that kinda girl
[hey, the girly aint playin']
virtuous in every way
The kinda girl that makes you say
“I hope she comes my way”

“Since I Met You” from Supernatural (released in 1998). This song has the polar opposite kind of style and sound of the other two songs, and is a super-happy piece about how the right girl brightens up your life and turns “darkness into day”. It’s a great, singable song that is unlike anything else DC Talk ever made. Enjoy!
Since I Met You DC Talk Song Lyrics:
Was at the end of my rope, I had nowhere to go
Was at the end of my rope, I had nothing to show
Until the day that I turned to you, was at the end of my …
You call me crazy, man you make my day
My state of residence was disarray
At every party and as far as anybody knew – everything was cool, but
The truth was bottled up inside of me
I was as lonely as a man could be
And my 200 friends couldn’t fill the void in my soul
It was a giant hole
Nothing made any sense
I thought there would never be an end
Then love came knocking at my door
Since I met you I’ve been alright
You turn all my darkness into light
And since I met you I’ve been okay,
I’ve been alright
Since I met you I’ve been okay
You’re rolling my winter into May
Since I met you I’ve been alright
I’ve been okay, been okay
You got me feeling like a million bucks
Some people write it off as Irish luck
But I know better, ’cause my rabbit’s foot never did me a bit of good
The truth is hit me like a sock in the eye
A revelation that I can’t deny
Your love has overtaken every little part of me
You were what I needed
Now I’m carried away
Never seen the sunshine like today
You made something of my life
(Chorus)
(REPEAT INTRO)
Sick and tired of the same ol’ fluff
You took me in and you shook me up
You got me tripping on a vision of eternity
I can see it clearly

About DC Talk Month
March 2013 is dedicated to the Christian rock pioneers DC Talk, arguably my favorite Christian CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) rock band and follows January 2013 which was Demon Hunter Month and February 2013 which was Becoming the Archetype Month. March will feature songs from most of dc Talk’s discography (1992′s Free At Last, 1995′s Jesus Freak, 1998′s Supernatural and 2000′s Intermission) featured daily throughout the month, one a day. Whether you like rock/alternative/hip-hop music, believe in God or not, check these songs out as you may be pleasantly surprised and hopefully you will discover some new-to-your-ears music to enjoy. DC Talk features lots of variety in their tunes, from hard rock to hip-hop to slow ballads that will pull on your heartstrings to singable power pop, so there will most certainly be something you’ll like. Enjoy!
